Description

This hike allows to climb up in eight days the second summit of the Atlas after the Toubkal, Jebel M'goun, overlooking the chain of the Central High Atlas with its 4068 m. A superb ascent within reach of any walker, in a limestone massif with extraordinary landscapes. Discovery also of the splendid plateau of pastures of Tarkeddit (2900 m) with its nomads and the superb villages of the beautiful valley of Aït Bougmez (known as the happy valley). An ascent near the inhabitants which is realized in a few days in this remarkable region of the High Atlas.

Day by day

  • Day 01: Reception at the airport of Marrakech - Overnight at the hotel or riad
    Whatever your time of arrival, a member of RedaTrekMaroc welcomes you. Beforehand, all you have to do is specify your flight details: arrival time, origin and flight number. In the case of delay, it is imperative to report it by SMS. Night at the hotel or riad in bed and breakfast formula.
  • Day 02: Marrakech, Azilal and Azib n'Ikkis - 3h hiking and 3h drive - Night in tent
    We take the road to Azilal then enter the deep valleys of the Central High Atlas, Ait Abbès and Ait Bougmez, before taking the track that climbs towards Arous. We meet the team of muleteers. We start our hike by crossing the Berber villages of the Arrous Valley whose adobe architecture is typical of the region. We join the troglodyte houses of Assif n'Arrous and the sheepfolds of Ikkis n'Arrous. We set up camp near azibs n'Ikkis (azib means sheepfold altitude in Berber) at 2500 m altitude. We enjoy a pastoral setting, an ideal place for a peaceful camp.
  • Day 03: Azib n'Ikkis, Tizi n'Oughri (3340 m) and plateau Tarkeddit - 5h hiking - Night in tent
    We begin our trek by taking a trail from the left bank of the Ikkis stream to the Tiwawakyhe cirque. In Tizi n'Oughri (3340 m), we enjoy the wonderful view of the vast northern slope of the M'goun, the plateau of Tarkeddit and the Tizoula overlooking the upper valley of Tessaout. We set up our camp near the sources of Tessaout (2900 m), on cleared lawns. After our lunch, we realize some small walks in the afternoon.

  • Day 04: Tarkeddit plateau, M'goun summit (4068 m) and Oulilimte source - 9h hiking - Night in tent
    We start very early in the morning our ascent to reach the long ridge of Ighil M'goun, which we follow to the summit, at 4068 m. The ridge is a mountain of limestone rich in shell-shaped fossils. From the summit the view is exceptional on the whole of the Central High Atlas and, in the south, the Dades Valley, the Saghro, the Drâa hamada. We continue down a path in a corridor, to reach our bivouac near the sheepfolds of Oulilimte at 2700 m. We enjoy the rest of the day to rest.   • Day 05: Source of Oulilimte and Tighremt n'Ait H'med - 5h30 hiking - Night in tent
    We start our day with a descent along the Assif n'Oulilimt in a landscape reminiscent of the North American West: gorges, fairy chimneys, herds and their shepherds. It happens that the shepherds did not meet H'med invited us to have a welcome tea; on our side, we can contribute to the local mountain economy and solidarity tourism by providing participation. We arrive at the camp located at the edge of M'goun wadi at 2325 m.

  • Day 06: Tighremt n'Ait H'med, Tizi n'Aït Immi (2900 m) and douar Ikhf'nighir (1800 m) - 6h30 hiking - Night in a gite
    We go up gradually to win the pass tizi n'Ait Imi (2905 m). It is a historic passage for the nomads Ait Atta and Ait H'med to reach the pastures at altitude. We contemplate the panoramic view of the valley of Ait Bougmez, named the happy valley. We continue downhill on a zigzag path. We take a break at the sources of Ait Immi, then go back to the upper Bougmez Valley. We do not fail to climb to the fortified collective attic which is also a Marabout Sidi Moussa, located on a hill to enjoy the 360 ° vision of the valley. We settle in a cottage in the village of Ikhfnighir for dinner and spend the night there.

  • Day 07: Azilal and Marrakech - 3h drive - Overnight at hotel or riad
    We savor our last breakfast in the land of Berbers at the cottage. We take our way back to Marrakech. We stop en route for lunch and arrive in Marrakech in the early afternoon. Installation in hotel or riad. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the always exciting red city: souks, mosques, beautiful palaces and all the atmosphere of Djemaa el-Fna.
