Description

A crossing of the barrier of the Atlas which begins with the North slope while climbing the summit of M'goun and the interior of its throats, which ends with the southern slope with the doors of the Sahara. This route is rich in beautiful landscapes, wild, colorful and contrasted, in particular meetings with the inhabitants of the Atlas, the Berbers.

Day by day

  • Day 01: Reception at the airport of Marrakech - Overnight at the hotel or riad
    Whatever your time of arrival, a member of RedaTrekMaroc welcomes you. Beforehand, all you have to do is specify your flight details: arrival time, origin and flight number. In the case of delay, it is imperative to report it by SMS. Night at the hotel or riad in bed & breakfast formula.
  • Day 02: Marrakech, Zaouïat Ahansal and Taghia (1750 m) - 2h hiking and 5h drive - Night in gite
    We leave in the central High Atlas through Azilal, then Ait Mahmmed. After a stop for lunch, we arrive at Zaouïat Ahansal at the beginning of the afternoon. We start a short hike to reach Taghia (1750 m), a beautiful village in red earth, in the heart of the circus "Moroccan Dolomites". The valley of Assif Ahansal shelters a set of limestone cliffs, one of the most beautiful of Morocco. The highlands frequented by nomads are dug canyons. This region also has a historic role: the Zaouiat Brotherhood of Ahansal, located in a hinge sector between nomads and sedentary, plays a role of arbiter and justice of the peace. We settle in the cottage in Taghia for dinner and spend the night.
  • Day 03: Taghia and tizi n'Tighboula (2800 m) - 7h hiking - Night in tent
    We start our day to get to the heart of the "Moroccan Dolomites". Here we enjoy the particularly spectacular views of the famous Taghia Gorge and all the ocher, pink and gray cliffs of the area. We set up our bivouac at Tizi n'Tighboula (3032 m), in the highlands frequented by the nomads Ait Atta.

  • Day 04: Tizi n'Tighboula and Lake Izourar - 5h30 hiking - Night in tent
    We hike by the east of Jebel Azourki (3637 m) to reach the Tizi n'Illaz (2905 m). We descend progressively through the high plateaus where many nomadic herding camps are located. We arrive at Lake Izourar (2526 m) where graze herds of goats and sheep. We set up our bivouac for the night.

  • Day 05: Ighrine, Ifrane and Ikhf n'ighir (Ait Bougmez) - 6h hiking - Night in a gite
    We go down to the villages of the upper Bougmez valley: Zawyat Oulmzi, Ifrane, Aït Wanougdal and Ikhf n'Ighrir. In dry stones, mud, red ocher or yellow ocher, in their setting of small irrigated fields, these villages are splendid. We spend the night in a cottage at Ikhf n'ighir.

  • Day 06: Ikhf n'ighir, Arouss and azib n'Ikkiss (2500 m) - 5h30 hiking - Night in tent
    After breakfast we begin our hike between fields and irrigation channels to Agouti. We have lunch under old walnut trees in the village of Arouss. We continue our trek by crossing this village with its typical adobe architecture before joining the troglodyte houses of Assif n'Arrous (assif = river) and the sheepfolds of Ikkis n'Arrous, to go to the bivouac at azib n'Ikkiss 2500 m (azib: bergerie in Berber) and spend the night there.

  • Day 07: Azib n'Ikkis, Tizi n'Oughri (3340) m) and plateau Tarkeddit (2900 m) - 5h hiking - Night in tent
    We continue along the path that follows the left bank of the Ikkis stream to the Tiwawakyhe cirque. At Tizi n'Oughri (3340 m), we admire the view of the vast northern slope of the M'goun, the plateau of Tilibit n'Tarkeddit and Tizoula overlooking the upper valley of the Tessaout. In the afternoon, we take some walks or we rest. We set up our camp near the sources of Tessaout (2900 m), on cleared lawns.

  • Day 08: Tarkeddit plateau, M'goun summit (4068 m) and Oulilimt spring (2600 m) - 9h hiking - Night in tent
    We leave very early in the morning to reach the long ridge of Ighil M'goun we follow to the summit, at 4068 m. The M'goun is a mountain of limestone rich in fossils shaped like shells on the ridge. At the top, the exceptional view of the entire Central High Atlas and, south of the Dades Valley, the Saghro and the Drâa hamada. We descend by the path in a corridor, to reach the camp near the sheepfolds of Oulilimt to 2700 m. The rest of the day is spent resting. Elevation +: 1168 m Descent -: 1368 m N.B: For those who do not wish to go uphill, they have the opportunity to follow the path with muleteers.

  • Day 09: Source of Oulilimt and source Aflafal (2300 m) - 5h hiking - Night in tent
    We descend along the Assul n'Oulilimt in a landscape similar to the American West: gorges, fairy chimneys and pastoral life. We meet the shepherds n'Ait H'med who serve us a welcome tea; on our side, we can participate in the local mountain economy and solidarity tourism. We sail through thuriferous junipers growing on the flanks of the valley towards the resurgence of Aflafal, the "magic spring" (2300 m). We spend the evening with the shepherds of the M'goun Valley. We spend the night in our camp.

  • Day 10: Aflafal and Ifkirn (2100 m) - 6h hiking - Night in tent
    We are on the south side of the M'goun, we gradually leave the landscapes of high mountains to descend the high and narrow valley M'goun (Ouzighimt). The fields are cultivated on narrow terraces, the isolated hamlets shelter at the foot of the ridges of the Jebel Wawgoulzat, the women with the black hair wearing braids raised rarely leave their village. We set up our camp in the village of Ifkirn (2100 m).

  • Day 11: Ifkirn, gorges M'goun and Tiranimine (1800 m) - 6h hiking - Night in tent
    We cross other villages, hung on the mountainside. After Imi n'irkt, the valley tightens very strongly. We cross the gorges M'goun offer a wild and beautiful show. After the suspended passage, said Asderm n'Sidi Hmad, we head to the most impressive part, called Achaabou (pipe), a large canyon with carved and eroded walls, about 300 meters high. Sometimes the passage narrows until it reaches only a few meters. We go out on Tiranimine's circus. We settle our camp for dinner and spend the night in Tiranimine (1800 m).

  • Day 12: Tiranimine and Boutaghrar (1600 m) - 5h hiking - Night in gite
    We continue our descent by the narrow gorges while contemplating the steep cliffs. We meet some mountain dwellers including Berbers We arrive at Boutaghrar (1600 m) to stay in bed for dinner and at night.

  • Day 13: Boutaghrar and Marrakech - 5h drive - Overnight at hotel or riad
    We take the road in the morning to return to Marrakech, by the Dades Valley and the famous road kasbahs. We cross the high barrier of the Atlas Tizi n'Tichka to descend to the plain of El Haouz and reach Marrakech in the afternoon. Installation in hotel or riad.
