Description

This trekking at altitude allows the ascent of Toubkal, a "4000", culminating point of North Africa without technical difficulty. It is also the discovery of the high sunny valleys of this massif with the crossing of many hamlets of ancestral tradition. The ascent of Toubkal is progressive, while remaining at altitude, we do not descend below 1500 m. The reward is the magnificent view of the plain of Marrakesh, with the contrast between the snow-covered passes and the distant Saharan faded by the warm mists.
We continue towards Marrakech red. This city has not only given its name to the whole country, but it is also the artistic witness of the past, with its medina and its shopping streets with aggressive odors, its red ocher ramparts on the background of Atlas and snowy peaks, its souks (colors, noises and perfumes), the Djemaa el-Fna square and its multicolored crowd, and the Koutoubia mosque.

Key Highlights

  • - Ascent of the highest point in North Africa
    - Discovery of hamlets of ancestral tradition
    - Marrakech, its place, its souks and its unique atmosphere

Day by day

  • Day 01: Reception at the airport of Marrakech - Overnight at the hotel or riad
Whatever your time of arrival, a member of RedaTrekMaroc welcomes you. Beforehand, all you have to do is specify your flight details: arrival time, origin and flight number. In the case of delay, it is imperative to report it by SMS. Night at the hotel or riad in bed and breakfast formula.
  • Day 02: Marrakech, Ouakaimedem, Tizi n'Addi (2980 m) and Tacheddirt - 5h hiking and 2h drive - Night in tent
We leave for Oukaimedem, the only ski resort of the Atlas, at 2600 m altitude, through the Ourika Valley. While the cook prepares lunch, we walk to discover the rock engravings of the plateau. We meet the muleteers, then we load the luggage, equipment and supplies on the back of the animals. We start a gradual climb by the Tizi n'Addi (2980 m - tizi means neck in Berber). We enjoy the panoramic view of the Imane valley and the peaks of the Toubkal massif. We continue our way by a descent towards Tacheddirt, the highest village of the Atlas. We set up our camp at Fousarou (2300 m) at the foot of Tizi n 'Likemt. We discover the agricultural traditions of the Berber mountain people. The irrigated terraces rise very high on the flanks of the valley. The upper channel (targa) forms an almost rectilinear boundary between the brown of the mountain and the green of the cultures. The villages are built above to lose no acre of fertile land.
    Elevation +: 620 m Descent -: 840 m
  • Day 03: Tacheddirt, Tizi n'Likemt (3550 m) and foot of Tizi n'Aouray - 7h30 hiking - Night in tent
By the Tizi in'Likemt, area of the high mountain (3550 m), we join the azib n'Likemt. These azibs (sheepfolds) very isolated are animated by a life abounding four to five months a year, during the summering of the herds of the villagers of Amsouzert. They find there grass that is lacking in their village already too far south of the massif. We set up our camp at the foot of the tizi n'Aouray, around 2900 m.
    Elevation +: 1650 m Descent -: 1050 m
  • Day 04: Tizi n'Aouray (3109 m) and Ifni lake (2295 m) - 6h hiking - Night in tent
It's a very "mountain" day that we are starting once again. The crops are far below and we will not see them until the end of the afternoon from the passage of the Tizi n'Aouray, very arid, at an altitude of 3109 meters. We continue by a continuous descent to the village of Amsouzert (1740 m). The walk ends behind the moraine that holds the Ifni lake, in the heart of a beautiful mountain cirque. We set up our camp at 2295 meters at the edge of the Ifni lake.
    Elevation +: 890 m Descent -: 1540 m
  • Day 05: Ifni lake, Tizi n'Ouanoums and Neltner refuge (3200 m) - 5h30 hiking - Night in tent
During this stage, Toubkal dominates us with its mass. A gorge then hard laces lead to Tizi n'Ouanoums (3600 m), a difficult passage for the caravan of mules. We continue with an easy and short descent to reach the Neltner refuge (3200 m). We set up the camp in the surrounding meadows.
    Elevation +: 1350 m Descent -: 580 m
  • Day 06: Toubkal ascent (4167 m) - 9h hiking - Night in gite
The ascent of the highest peak in North Africa is without major difficulty. We start with a stony path near the camp, in a scree and then in a valley more congested, crowded with large blocks. The final ridge is broad and gradually sets as it approaches the highest point. From the top, we have a very wide view of the plain of Marrakech, Siroua and the Great South. In general, the descent is made by another route on the northern slope. After tea and lunch at the camp, we descend from a setting of arid mountains to irrigated valleys that lead by Sidi Chamharouch (marabout) to the cultivated shelf of Armed (1900 m). We dine and spend the night in a gite.
    Elevation+: 967 m Descent -: 2167 m
  • Day 07: Armed and Marrakech - 2h30 drive - Overnight at hotel or riad
After breakfast on the terrace, transfer to Marrakech, where we arrive late morning. Installation in hotel or riad. The rest of the day is free to enjoy the city of a thousand contrasts.
