Description

This program combines two hikes: one with mules in the Toubkal massif south of Marrakech and the other with camels along the Atlantic coast, near the fortified city of Essaouira. We start with a crossing of beautiful Berber villages backed by the hills, the high mountain passes with breathtaking views and finish our journey by contemplating the beaches and shores of the medina of Essaouira, while enjoying tasty grilled fresh fish straight from the harbor.

Day by day

  • Day 01: Reception at the airport of Marrakech - Overnight at the hotel or riad
    Whatever your time of arrival, a member of RedaTrekMaroc welcomes you. Beforehand, all you have to do is specify your flight details: arrival time, origin and flight number. In the case of delay, it is imperative to report it by SMS. Night at the hotel or riad in bed and breakfast formula.
  • Day 02: Marrakech, Asni, Matate, Col tanie (2300 m) and Id Aissa (1900 m) - 4h hiking and 1h30 drive - Night in gite
    We leave at 8:30 in the direction of Asni. We stop for the last purchases especially bottles of mineral water. Once arrived at the village Aguersioual, we meet the team of muleteers and cook. We proceed to the loading of the bags, supplies and mattresses. We begin our journey uphill to the village of Matate, then we leave the village towards the Toudite collar. After the lunch break, we leave to reach the village of Id Aissa (1900 m). We dine and spend the night in a homestay.
  • Day 03: Id Aissa, Tizi Oussem, Ighouliden and Tamsoulte - 5h hiking - Night in a gite
    We go up the river (river in Arabic) where the villagers are busy around food crops. The trek is magical in the villages of the Azaden valley and is like walking in a giant garden: terraced crops, junipers, walnut trees, water mills near the river, mud houses ranging from ocher dark red. We continue towards the village of Tizi Oussem. We climb up to the azibs of Tamsoulte by a mountain path that winds between juniper and cedar. We arrive at the cottage, located above the summer azibs. After the lunch, we hike to discover the waterfalls of Ighouliden (2300 m), the highest of the massif (about fifty meters). We return to the gite for dinner and overnight.

  • Day 04: Tamsoulte, Tizi n'Zik (2490 m), Imlil and Ait Souka (1800 m) - 5h hiking - Night in gite
    By a very soft path in balcony, we take the direction of the valley of Aït Mizane, via the tizi n'Zik (2490 m). At the pass, the slopes of Toubkal appear, as well as Jebel Oukaïmedem. The contrast between the green valleys and the arid mountains that dominate them is still striking. We arrive at Ait Souka, above Imlil. We dine and spend the night in a cottage in Aït Souk.

  • Day 05: Aït Souka, tizi n'Tamatert (2300 m) and Tachedirt (2190 m) - 5h hiking - Night in gite
    We cross a forest of Aleppo pines to reach the Tamatert pass, the view is spectacular two valleys of Imenane and Ait Mizane. We descend to the village of Tinghrine then go back to Tamguiste and Ouaneskra. The opportunity to admire the agricultural traditions of the Berber mountain people. The irrigated terraces rise very high on the flanks of the valley. The upper channel (targa) forms an almost rectilinear boundary between the brown of the mountain and the green of the cultures; the villages are built above to lose no acre of fertile land. We dine and spend the night in a bed and breakfast in Tachedirt.

  • Day 06: Tachedirt and Imi Oughlad - 5h hiking - Night in gite
    We start our stage with a descent by mule tracks and a very little track, passing through typical villages: Ouaneskra, Tamesguidt, Ikiss, Amssakrou and Arg. We stop for lunch at the edge of the river, under the walnut trees, not far from the village of Imeskar. We cross tizi n'Bourg (1500 m) and enjoy the view of the various valleys, villages, "4 000" of the High Atlas. We dine and spend the night in a cottage in the village of Imi Oughlad.

  • Day 07: Imi Oughlad and Marrakech - 1h30 drive - Night in hotel or riad
    After breakfast on the terrace of the cottage, we join the vehicle to return to Marrakech, where we arrive late morning. Installation in your hotel or riad. The afternoon and evening are free in this city where wonderfully mix culture, crafts and animations of all kinds
  • Day 08: Marrakech, Imessouane and Amderdiz'in - 3h hiking and 4h30 drive - Night in tent
    We take the road to start the second part of the program and discover the Atlantic coast. We go through Chichaoua to reach the tip of Imessouane, where we find our camel team. After lunch, we load the luggage, equipment and supplies on the mules, then resume our hike. From Imessouane, we arrive at Amderdiz'in, beach frequented by surfers. We set up our camp for dinner and spend the night there. The place is famous for its beautiful sunsets.
  • Day 09: Amderdiz'in and Tafedna - 6h hiking - Night in tent
    We travel through a mountainous landscape, rocky land covered with a forest of argan trees. During our hike, we cross several small villages surrounded by fields planted with barley, we meet the Berbers of Haha. A beautiful day, above beaches and coves sometimes inaccessible. We enjoy exceptional views of the ocean. We set up our camp near Tafdena, a fishing village for dinner and spend the night there.
  • Day 10: Tafedna and Sidi Ahmed Assayh - 6h hiking - Night in tent
    We pass by Tafedna, former Portuguese village today a fishing port, we go up to a plateau covered with argan trees. Here, goats climb trees to eat their leaves. The coastline is steep and wild. In the distance, we can see fishermen on their small boats. We then go down to the sea, then hike along the coast to the camp, Sidi Ahmed Assayh (well), the most beautiful beach in the region for dinner and spend the night.
  • Day 11: Sidi Ahmed Assayh and Sidi m'Barek - 4h hiking - Night under tent
    We drive along the rugged coastline from the cliff and cross small Berber villages. It happens that the locals agree to take tea accompanied by patties and argan oil. On our side, we can give them a contribution. We arrive in the dunes, the landscape is spectacular, the assif n'Boud, a small river leads to the sea. Colorful boats are drawn on the sand. We set up our camp near the beach, next to the waterfalls of Sidi m'Barek. It is a beautiful site bordered by a dune. It remains a good part of the afternoon and evening to enjoy the sea.
  • Day 12: Sidi m'Barek, Sidi Kaouki and Essaouira - 4h30 hiking - Night at the hotel or riad
    Since Sidi m'Barek, we continue our hike on the coast. The light is beautiful. We contemplate the cliffs worked by salt and wind and wild beaches to the village of Sidi Kaouki. There we take the road to Essaouira. Installation in a hotel or riad. Discovery of the old Mogador, the "white and blue city" (white houses with blue doors and windows). This fishing port founded by the Portuguese and then conquered by the French is today a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It's a delight to stroll through the medina, the alleys, the fortress and the port. Possibility also swimming on the large beach of Essaouira.
  • Day 13: Essaouira and Marrakech - 2h30 drive - Night at the hotel or riad
    We leave in the morning for Marrakech and have lunch along the way. In the early afternoon, settle in a hotel or riad. It remains the end of the day to enjoy this exciting city, from the snake showers of Djemaa el-Fna to mosques and beautiful palaces and gardens.
