Description

Essaouira, charming port and lively seaside resort overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, is a maze of streets with Portuguese, Arabic and French architecture. The ramparts of the old town, Medina, date from the 18th century. Also known as the windy city, it is also a paradise for surfers from around the world. The coastal city offers a myriad of cultural, artistic and sporting discoveries, according to the desires and budgets.

Day by day

  • Programme
    From Marrakech, we enjoy an unforgettable two and a half hours through argan plantations and breathtaking arid landscapes, among which, herds of goats perched on the argan trees, endemic trees of the region of Essaouira. Along the way, we visit a women's cooperative producing argan oil.

    Arrived in Essaouira, we visit the fishing port and cross the medina and its traditional markets, souks. We continue walking among art galleries, authentic carpentry workshops, cedar inlay and basketwork, to the sound of Gnawa music.

    We explore some of the ramparts and gates. Essaouira, as well as its borj and military buildings including the scala of the kasbah and scala port: the two main fortifications of the city.

    For lunch, we recommend the local specialties: a tajine Souiri or a tray of grilled fish.

    Before heading back to Marrakech, we go along the beach admiring the two most popular sports in Essaouira: windsurfing and kite surfing.
