The imperial cities of Morocco are the cities designated as capitals, at different times by different monarchs from the Moroccan dynasties: Idrissides, Almoravides, Almohades, Mérinides, Saadiens and Alaouites.
Morocco has four imperial cities. Fez was founded by Sultan Idrissid Idris I and Marrakesh by Almoravid Sultan Youssef Ibn Tashfin. As for Rabat, the city was founded by the Almohad sultan Abd al-Mumin and Meknes by the Alawite sultan Moulay Ismaïl ben Chérif in the 11th century.
